Ossie Bluege Marquee

He came to Washington in 1922 and never left the organization for fifty years. He played third base for the pennant winners of 1924, 1925 and 1933 and for the club that won the 1924 World Series, the only one the original Senators ever won.

Eighteen seasons gave him 1,751 hits, 276 doubles, 848 runs batted in, 723 walks and a .272 average, with 1,487 games at third base. His best year was 1931: 155 hits and 98 runs batted in at thirty. He was known for his glove — contemporaries put him with the best third basemen of the period — and for playing hurt.

He managed Washington from 1943 to 1947, then became the club's farm director and later its comptroller. He was the man who went to Idaho in 1954 and signed a seventeen-year-old named Harmon Killebrew. Six ballots gave him one to three votes apiece. He died in 1985, at eighty-four.
