Miller Huggins Marquee Hall of Fame 1964

He stood five feet six and weighed 140 pounds, and he was not going to hit the ball over anyone. Across thirteen seasons he drew 1,003 walks in 5,558 at-bats, batted .265 with 1,474 hits, stole 324 bases and scored 948 runs. The four years he led his league in walks were 1905, 1907, 1910 and 1914.

Cincinnati had him for six seasons and St. Louis for seven. In St. Louis he began managing while he was still the club's second baseman, and he kept putting himself in the lineup until 1916, when he appeared in eighteen games and came to bat nine times. He never played anywhere else.

The rest of his working life belongs to the New York Yankees and to a record this archive does not keep, because it holds no manager statistics. He died on September 25, 1929, still in the job, before that season had finished. The Veterans Committee elected him as a manager in 1964, thirty-five years later.
