Matt Holliday Marquee

b. January 15, 1980 · Colorado Rockies 2004–2008, 2018, Oakland Athletics 2009, St. Louis Cardinals 2009–2016, New York Yankees 2017

In 2007 he led the National League in hits with 216, in doubles with 50 and in runs batted in with 137, and was the most valuable player of the Championship Series. Colorado reached the World Series that year after winning 21 of its last 22 games, a run that started with a one-game playoff he ended by sliding home on a sacrifice fly. Replays have never settled whether he touched the plate.

Fifteen seasons gave him 2,096 hits, 316 home runs, 1,220 runs batted in and a .299 average, with seven All-Star selections and four Silver Sluggers. Five seasons were at Coors Field and eight in St. Louis, where he won the 2011 World Series.

Eight of his fifteen seasons came after he left Colorado, and he hit .287 with 186 home runs in them, which answers the usual objection to a Rockies hitter better than most can. The writers gave him four votes of 385 in 2024 and he came off the ballot after one year.
