Jim Palmer Marquee Hall of Fame 1990

He won 268 games against 152 losses with a 2.86 earned run average, 2,212 strikeouts, 211 complete games and 53 shutouts, all for Baltimore. He led the American League in wins in 1975, 1976 and 1977, won the Cy Young Award in 1973, 1975 and 1976, and added four Gold Gloves.

At twenty he won 15 games and shut out the Dodgers in the 1966 World Series, in the last game Sandy Koufax ever pitched. Then his shoulder failed. He pitched nine games in 1967, none in 1968, and worked his way back through the minors before returning in 1969 to go 16-4 with six shutouts.

He and Earl Weaver argued in public for most of their years together. Baltimore won the World Series in 1966, 1970 and 1983, seventeen years between the first and the last, and he was on the staff for all three. The writers elected him in 1990 on his first ballot, with 411 of 444 votes. He was also the face of a long run of underwear advertisements.
