Jason Jennings won National League Rookie of the Year in 2002 with sixteen wins for Colorado, and remains the only pitcher the Rockies have produced who has taken the award. Pitching half a season at altitude made the achievement harder than the raw numbers suggest.
He had announced himself the previous August by throwing a complete-game shutout in his major league debut and hitting a home run in the same game, which no one had done before. Six seasons in Denver followed.
Born in Dallas in 1978, Jennings was traded to Houston after his best year, in 2006, and arm trouble followed him there and to Texas. He finished 62-74 with 749 strikeouts.
