Jack Graney Marquee

b. June 10, 1886 · Cleveland Naps 1908, 1910–1914, Cleveland Indians 1915–1922

Graney stayed with one franchise through two names and fourteen seasons, from the Cleveland Naps to the Cleveland Indians. His most distinctive skill was reaching base without a hit. He led the American League with 94 walks in 1917 and 105 in 1919, after drawing 102 walks in 1916.

That 1916 season also brought an American League-leading 41 doubles, along with 142 hits and 106 runs. His career totals were 1,178 hits, 219 doubles, 79 triples, 706 runs, 148 stolen bases and 712 walks, with a .250 average across 1,402 games.

Graney appeared twice as a pitcher in his 1908 debut season, but the outfield became his position; he played 1,282 games there. After missing the majors in 1909, he returned to Cleveland in 1910 and never represented another club. He played his final season in 1922 and died in 1978, at ninety-one.
