Ivey Wingo Marquee

Wingo became a regular catcher for St. Louis in 1912, then moved to Cincinnati in 1915 and stayed for the rest of his career. His busiest offensive year was 1917, when he played 121 games, collected 106 hits and drove in 39 runs while hitting .266.

Seventeen seasons gave him 1,039 hits, 147 doubles, 81 triples, 455 runs batted in and a .260 average. He caught 1,233 games, with only 20 appearances at other positions. His 87 stolen bases added another dimension for a catcher of his era.

Wingo played four seasons for the Cardinals and thirteen for the Reds, though his Cincinnati years narrowed to reserve work after 1922. He managed the club for two games in 1916 and split them, one win and one loss. After sitting out 1927 and 1928, he returned for one final game in 1929. He died in 1941, at fifty.
