Frank Grant Marquee Hall of Fame 2006

The archive holds 38 hits at .330 across 29 recorded games between 1891 and 1907, and that is very nearly nothing next to what he did. The seasons that made his name were earlier, in the white minor leagues of the 1880s, and this archive does not hold them: the color line hardened around him while he was playing, and after it did there was nowhere for his statistics to be kept.

What is recorded of him afterward is with the Cuban Giants, the Gorhams and the Philadelphia Giants, the independent Black clubs of the 1890s and 1900s. He played 18 of his recorded games at second base.

Opposing players are said to have spiked him so often that he took to wearing wooden shin guards. He worked as a waiter in New York for the last decades of his life and died in 1937 in an unmarked grave. The Hall of Fame elected him in 2006 through the special Negro Leagues committee.
