Dusty Baker Marquee

b. June 15, 1949 · Atlanta Braves 1968–1975, Los Angeles Dodgers 1976–1983, San Francisco Giants 1984, Oakland Athletics 1985–1986

On the last day of the 1977 season he hit his thirtieth home run, which made Los Angeles the first club to have four men reach 30 — Steve Garvey with 33, Reggie Smith with 32, Ron Cey with 30 and him. Glenn Burke, waiting at the plate, raised a hand over his head and Baker hit it, and that is the first high five anyone can date.

Nineteen seasons gave him 1,981 hits, 242 home runs, 1,013 runs batted in and a .278 average, with two All-Star selections, two Silver Sluggers and a Gold Glove. He was the most valuable player of the 1977 Championship Series and won the World Series with the Dodgers in 1981.

He has managed twenty-six seasons since — San Francisco, Chicago, Cincinnati, Washington and Houston — won 2,169 games, eighth on the all-time list, and took the 2022 World Series with Houston at seventy-three. He was on deck when Hank Aaron hit his 715th home run. The 1992 ballot gave him four votes of 430.
