Devin Williams throws a changeup that spins the wrong way and drops sideways, and in the shortened 2020 season it produced numbers that look like a misprint: a 0.33 earned run average and 53 strikeouts in 27 innings, which brought him Rookie of the Year and Reliever of the Year at once.
Milwaukee used him as a setup man and then as their closer, and he made All-Star teams in 2022 and 2023. He was traded to the Yankees ahead of the 2025 season.
Born in Florissant, Missouri in 1994, Williams was a second-round pick out of high school in 2013 and needed six years and a move to the bullpen to reach the majors. He has saved 86 games with a career earned run average of 2.45 and 465 strikeouts across 298 innings.
