Born December 27, 1968
Tallahassee, FL, USA
He hit 38 home runs in 1996, 34 with 119 runs batted in in 1998 and 38 again in 1999, and finished with 275 in fourteen seasons at a .251 average with 502 walks and 1,304 strikeouts. It is the shape of hitter the 1990s produced in quantity and the game later decided it liked.
Texas brought him up at twenty and he played six seasons there before a free-agent year in Kansas City and five in Detroit. He won two Silver Sluggers and was chosen for one All-Star team, in 1998.
A torn rotator cuff and then a ruptured biceps tendon ended it at thirty-four, in the middle of a four-year contract, after he had played fourteen games in his last two seasons. No Hall of Fame ballot has listed him.
