Dave Concepción played shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds for his entire 19-year career, from 1970 to 1988, and for no other club, a rare kind of one-team loyalty even by the standards of his era.
He batted .267 with 2,326 hits over 2,488 games, driving in 950 runs and stealing 321 bases. He also pitched once in his career, working an inning and a third without recording a decision either way.
Five Gold Gloves came between 1974 and 1979, along with two Silver Sluggers, and he was named Most Valuable Player of the 1982 All-Star Game. He made nine All-Star teams overall, the first in 1973 and the last in 1982.
Born in Ocumare de la Costa, Venezuela, on June 17, 1948, he batted and threw right-handed.
