Daniel Bard Marquee

He struck out 76 in 73 innings with a 1.93 earned run average as Boston's setup man in 2010, at twenty-four, and looked like a future closer. The next year his control disappeared without warning — walks, wild pitches, an inability to find the strike zone that had nothing to do with his arm — and by 2013 his earned run average was 9.00. He did not pitch in the majors again until 2020.

Colorado gave him a chance in 2020 after seven years away, mostly working through the same command problems in the minor leagues, and he made the club, going 4-2 with a 3.65 earned run average and winning the Comeback Player of the Year award. He remained a useful reliever for the Rockies through 2023.

Fifteen seasons on the books, spread nine years apart, gave him 31 wins, 66 saves, 457 innings and a 3.74 earned run average across 408 appearances. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
