Clete Boyer Marquee

b. February 9, 1937 · Kansas City Athletics 1955–1957, New York Yankees 1959–1966, Atlanta Braves 1967–1971

In the seventh game of the 1964 World Series he hit a home run for the Yankees and his brother Ken Boyer hit one for St. Louis — the only time brothers have homered in the same World Series game, on opposing clubs. Ken's side won.

Sixteen seasons gave him 1,396 hits, 162 home runs, 654 runs batted in and a .242 average. He played third base for five straight Yankee pennant winners and won the Gold Glove in 1969 for Atlanta, at thirty-two — he would have won more, and most accounts of the period say so, but Brooks Robinson had the award in the other league's absence.

He hit 26 home runs with 96 runs batted in for the 1967 Braves. He played four seasons in Japan for the Taiyo Whales afterward. Two writers' ballots gave him no more than three votes. He died in 2007, at seventy.
