He won the 2006 Cy Young Award at twenty-seven and finished second in 2007 and 2008, going 16-8, 18-10 and 22-7 across those three years with earned run averages near three. The sinker produced ground balls at a rate the game had not seen since the 1970s.
He started on Opening Day 2009, lasted four innings, and never pitched in the major leagues again. The shoulder was operated on twice and he retired at thirty-three having thrown 1,319 innings in seven seasons.
Seven seasons gave him 87 wins against 62, a 3.27 earned run average, 15 complete games and three All-Star selections. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
