Alcides Escobar Marquee

b. December 16, 1986 · Milwaukee Brewers 2008–2010, Kansas City Royals 2011–2018, Washington Nationals 2021–2022

Alcides Escobar's 2015 was a shortstop's ideal season: a Gold Glove, an All-Star selection, the League Championship Series Most Valuable Player award, and a World Series title with Kansas City. He hit .478 in that ALCS against Toronto.

Born in La Sabana, Venezuela in 1986, he reached the majors with Milwaukee in 2008 and went to the Royals three years later in the trade that sent Zack Greinke the other way. He held the position in Kansas City for eight seasons, including a stretch of playing every game for three straight years.

Escobar batted .258 across 1,554 games with 178 stolen bases, and closed his career with Washington in 2022. The bat was never the argument; the glove and the durability were.
