He was a 25-year-old rookie in 2017 when he hit 52 home runs and led the American League in home runs, runs and walks. Five years later he hit 62, one more than Roger Maris did in 1961, and led the league in home runs, runs, runs batted in and walks. Only Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa have hit more in a season.
Through 2025 he has 368 home runs and 1,205 hits in ten seasons, batting .294, with 873 runs and 830 runs batted in. He has led the American League in walks four times and in home runs and runs three times each. He was Rookie of the Year in 2017 and an All-Star in seven seasons.
The Most Valuable Player award came in 2022, 2024 and 2025. Barry Bonds has seven and Shohei Ohtani four; ten other men have three. The Yankees made him their captain before the 2023 season, and he has played for no other club. In 2024 he hit 58 home runs and drove in 144, leading the league in both.
