Ichiro Suzuki tripled at Coors Field on August 7, 2016 — one hit in four at-bats, and the 3,000th of his major league career. Miami beat Colorado 10–7.
He was forty-two and had not started the season as a regular. What made the number unusual is that it counted only half his professional output: he had 1,278 hits in nine seasons with the Orix BlueWave in Japan before signing with Seattle in 2001, and the two totals together exceed 4,000.
His first major league season brought a Most Valuable Player award, Rookie of the Year, a Gold Glove and 242 hits; in 2004 he collected 262, the most anyone has managed in a season. Suzuki finished with 3,089 hits and 509 stolen bases, and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2025, one vote short of unanimous.
