Pat Gillick Marquee Hall of Fame 2011

Pat Gillick built four front offices across twenty-seven years after spending five seasons as a left-handed pitcher in the Baltimore and Houston farm systems. Born in August 1937, he was elected to the Hall of Fame by the Expansion Era committee in 2011.

He built Toronto through the 1980s from an expansion club into a winning one, then ran Baltimore, Seattle and Philadelphia. The nickname was Stand Pat, given to him for refusing midseason trades, which he disliked and which the record of his winters contradicts.

There is no general managers' table in this archive, and a club's record belongs to the club rather than the man who assembled it, so the part he is in the Hall of Fame for cannot be given a number on this page. He was elected two years after his last front-office job and remains a senior adviser in Philadelphia.
