Mark McGwire Marquee

b. October 1, 1963 · Oakland Athletics 1986–1997, St. Louis Cardinals 1997–2001

Mark McGwire played first base for the Oakland Athletics for his first eleven seasons before a 1997 trade sent him to the St. Louis Cardinals, where he finished his career in 2001.

He hit 583 home runs, one of the highest totals in this database, though his .263 average and 1,626 hits over 1,874 games show a game built almost entirely around power. He drove in 1,414 runs and walked 1,317 times.

A Gold Glove came his way in 1990, followed by three Silver Sluggers, and he took the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award in 1999.

His All-Star selections numbered twelve, running from 1987 to 2000. Born in Pomona, California, on October 1, 1963, he batted and threw right-handed.
