John Schuerholz Marquee Hall of Fame 2017

John Schuerholz went from teaching in Baltimore to the Orioles' mail room after writing the club to ask for a job. Born in October 1940, he built his career in baseball operations and was elected to the Hall of Fame by the Today's Game Era committee in 2017.

He was Kansas City's general manager when the club won the World Series in 1985 and Atlanta's when it won in 1995, which no general manager had done in both leagues before him. He hired Bobby Cox as manager, or rather moved him back to the dugout from the job Schuerholz was taking.

There is no general managers' table here, and a club's record belongs to the club, so what is on this page is his dates and his election. He became Atlanta's club president afterward. He and Cox went into the Hall of Fame three years apart.
