Jim Brown Marquee

Jim Brown caught for the Chicago American Giants for twelve consecutive seasons from 1919, which covered the founding of the Negro National League, its first three pennants and the club's decline afterwards. He kept returning to them for years after that.

A switch-hitter, he batted .275 with 635 hits in the surviving record and drew 214 walks, and by the end of his career was appearing at first base and in the outfield as well as behind the plate.

Born in San Marcos, Texas in 1892, Brown played his last recorded games in 1937, eighteen years after his first. He stole 70 bases and drove in 368 runs in the games that were scored. He died on January 21, 1943, at fifty.
