Jacob Ruppert Marquee

Jacob Ruppert was a brewer and former congressman who bought into the Yankees in 1915 and eventually owned the club outright. Born in August 1867 and dead in January 1939, he appeared on three Hall of Fame ballots before the pre-integration committee elected him in 2013.

He inherited a brewery, served four terms in Congress, and bought a half share of a club that had never won anything for $460,000 with a partner he later bought out. He is reported to have said that he wanted a game to be his team scoring eight runs in the first inning and grinding out the rest.

Ruth arrived from Boston for cash and a loan against the mortgage on Fenway Park, and the stadium in the Bronx opened three years later. The archive holds no owners' table, so what is on this page is his dates; the pennants belong to the club.
