George Dixon Marquee

b. January 4, 1896 · Chicago American Giants 1917–1922, 1924–1925, Indianapolis ABCs 1923–1926, Birmingham Black Barons 1924, Cleveland Hornets 1927, Cleveland Tigers 1928, Cleveland Cubs 1931, Cleveland Red Sox 1934

George Dixon caught for Rube Foster's Chicago American Giants, the club that effectively founded the Negro National League in 1920 and won its first three pennants. He was on the roster for all of them.

After Chicago he moved to the Indianapolis ABCs for four seasons and then through a run of Cleveland franchises — the Hornets, the Tigers, the Cubs, the Red Sox — that each lasted a year or two before folding, which was the ordinary fate of a club in that city.

Born in Greenwood, South Carolina in 1896, Dixon batted .249 with 318 hits and 144 walks across 438 recorded games. His death came on August 4, 1940, at forty-four.
