Dewey Creacy played third base for the St. Louis Stars through the club's strongest period, when they won Negro National League pennants in 1928, 1930 and 1931 with Cool Papa Bell and Willie Wells alongside him.
When that league collapsed he moved through Detroit, Washington, Akron and Columbus in the space of two seasons, then found a second long home with the Philadelphia Stars from 1934. He was known for his hands at a position where the ball arrives fast.
Born in Dallas in 1900, Creacy batted .291 with 1,025 hits, 85 home runs and 616 runs batted in across 959 recorded games. He lived to eighty-four, dying in November 1984.
