Bob Horner Marquee

Atlanta drafted him first overall in June 1978 and he played his first major-league game eleven days later without a minor-league inning. He hit 23 home runs in 89 games and was Rookie of the Year. On July 6, 1986 he hit four home runs in a game against Montreal, and the Braves lost 11-8.

Ten seasons gave him 1,047 hits, 218 home runs, 685 runs batted in and a .277 average. He hit 30 or more three times and might have hit many more: a broken wrist, a shoulder and a series of other injuries cost him parts of six seasons.

Collusion left him without an offer after 1986 and he signed with the Yakult Swallows, hitting 31 home runs in 93 games in Japan. He came back for one year in St. Louis and stopped at thirty. The 1994 ballot gave him no votes. He died in May 2026, at sixty-eight.
