Bill Bradley Marquee

b. February 13, 1878 · Chicago Orphans 1899–1900, Cleveland Blues 1901, Cleveland Bronchos 1902, Cleveland Naps 1903–1910, Brooklyn Tip-Tops 1914, Kansas City Packers 1915

He hit safely in his first 21 games of the 1902 season, a streak that stood as the American League's longest for years afterward, and finished that year with 187 hits, 11 home runs and 77 runs batted in. He hit 183 hits with 83 runs batted in two years later.

Fourteen seasons gave him 1,471 hits, 275 doubles, 84 triples, 754 runs batted in and a .271 average, with 1,390 games at third base for Cleveland, where he played eight straight seasons as its regular there. Contemporaries rated his glove with the best anyone had seen at the position to that point.

A beaning in 1907 affected his eyesight and shortened his career; he was a part-time player after that and finished in the short-lived Federal League at thirty-seven. Eleven ballots and committees have taken up his name. He died in 1954, at seventy-six.
