The Athletics' 20-Game Winning Streak

On September 4, 2002, the Oakland Athletics trailed the Kansas City Royals 11–0 after two and a half innings, then clawed all the way back. Scott Hatteberg led off the bottom of the ninth with a home run to win it 12–11, extending Oakland's winning streak to 20 consecutive games, an American League record.

The streak was central to the story told in Michael Lewis's book Moneyball, which chronicled how general manager Billy Beane and the Athletics used statistical analysis to build a competitive roster on one of the league's smallest payrolls.

Oakland's streak ended the next night. The Cleveland Indians broke the American League record with a 22-game streak in 2017.
