Don Larsen's Perfect Game

On October 8, 1956, New York Yankees pitcher Don Larsen retired all 27 Brooklyn Dodgers he faced in Game 5 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium, throwing the only perfect game in World Series history. The Yankees won 2–0.

Larsen needed just 97 pitches and threw the game using a no-windup delivery he had adopted only a few starts earlier. Catcher Yogi Berra leaped into Larsen's arms after the final out, an image that remains one of the most reproduced photographs in baseball history.

Larsen was a journeyman pitcher for much of his career, finishing with a losing record overall, which only sharpened the contrast with his single perfect afternoon on baseball's biggest stage. The Yankees went on to win the series in seven games.
